Abduction victims freed, suspects captured in Ajijic police raid

In a dramatic turn of events unfolding within a matter of hours after several hundred people gathered at the steps of Chapala City Hall to call for action concerning a rash of abductions of local inhabitants, state authorities announced that a police raid at an Ajijic property resulted in the rescue of eight persons being held there against their will.

pg2aGriselda Gutiérrez Rodríguez, Ángel Adán Martínez López and Wenceslao Mendoza, who went missing between June 9 and 10, were discovered alive, along with one other woman and four more men whose disappearances were previously unknown to authorities. All eight were reportedly found in relatively good health despite signs of physical and mental torture.

The house where they were held captive was located after state security agents initiated intelligence gathering immediately after family members of Gutierrez, Martínez and Mendoza reported the disappearances.

Relatives of the other five refrained from filing official complaints under threats of further harm by their captors.
