Chapala city councilor back at work after beating Covid-19

Incumbent Chapala city councilor and former mayor Alejandro Aguirre is back on the job following the 45-day leave of absence he took after being diagnosed with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

pg7At the June 24 council session, Aguirre had submitted a written request to take unpaid leave from his duties for medical reasons. Permission was granted and Pablo Rojas Padilla, named as substitute councilor on the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) 2018 election ticket, was immediately sworn in to fill his seat temporarily.

Aguirre did not reveal the nature of his illness until Wednesday, August 5, when he called a press conference with local media to announce his return to work, effective the first of this week. He explained that he held off on immediately going public about his bout with Covid-19 because he was focused on recovering his health, and also felt hesitant about causing alarm just as the first local cases were being confirmed.
