Chapala-Mezcala highway gets upgrade

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramirez started a working tour of the north shore region Wednesday, August 26, by kicking off the revamp of the Chapala-Mezcala highway.

pg1cAccompanied by Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works Omar Paredes Flores and mayors Moisés Anaya Aguilar of Chapala and Luis Miguel Nuñez López of Poncitlán, the governor outlined details of the 19-kilometer long project slated for completion by the end of the calendar year with a budget of 59 million pesos.

Motorists are advised to travel the road with caution and be prepared for delays and detours while the work is in progress.

Alfaro and his party continued on to Mezcala and beyond to San Pedro Itzicán where a 15-kilometer roadway connecting the village to Poncitlán is also being rebuilt, with an investment of 33 million pesos, to add another part to the improved highway circuit circling Lake Chapala.

In Poncitlán, the governor visited the renovated municipal health clinic where services include attention to more than 110 patients afflicted with kidney disease. Stops followed at a newly remodeled school and the site of a malecón boardwalk being built along the banks of the Santiago River.

The governor’s tour ended in Ocotlán, where he inspected progress on malecón projects bordering the Santiago and Zula rivers, along with various other public works now under way.
