Ajijic postal services relocated to Chapala

The Ajijic branch of Correos de Mexico, the nation’s postal service, was eliminated early this month, with all of its post office boxes and services relocated to the main branch in Chapala on Calle Degollado, a few doors away from DIF headquarters.

Current leaseholders will keep the same postal address and box number where correspondence will be deposited.

The postmaster attributed the closure to federal budget cuts that stripped funding to pay rent on the building situated on the north side of the highway opposite Actinver bank.

Rentals of apartado postal slots have dropped off since the agency expanded the zone of Ajijic home deliveries more than ten years ago. Competition from private mail services also contributed to lost income.
