Chapala authorities pull plug on wedding shindig

Inspectors from Chapala’s Regulations Department, backed up by police officers, swooped in Saturday, September 19 to shut down a wedding party that was underway at an outdoor event center on the western outskirts of Ajijic.

pg11Inspectors said the event violated the stipulations established in a permit issued at City Hall the previous day.

Tipped off by neighbors that equipment and furnishings to service a large social gathering had been delivered to the swanky Chapinaya Jardín de Eventos perched at the top of the hill in the eponymous residential complex, authorities set up watch at the highway entrance around 7 p.m. After it became apparent that the number of persons entering the area far exceeded the count allowed under Covid-19 prevention protocols, they stepped in, ordering the wedding couple and more than 200 guests to leave the premises. By 1 a.m., once the party grounds had been vacated, officials proceeded to string up clausura (closure) banners across the entry gateway.
