Human rights agency calls Chapala government to task

For the second time, the Jalisco Human Rights Commission (CEDHJ) has issued a stern recommendation to the Chapala government in connection with the May 2 detention of Preparatoria Chapala director Juan Ramón Álvarez López at the Covid-19 prevention “sanitary filter” roadblock set up on the highway entrance to the municipality at Chapala Haciendas.

pg13cThe high school principal was hauled off to police headquarters after a contentious interaction with officials involving his inability to produce proof of local residence. Upon his release he lodged a complaint with the CEDHJ claiming he had been roughed up by police officers and that his constitutional right to free transit had been violated.
