Dengue prevention campaign under way at lakeside

The Chapala government is urging local inhabitants to actively take part in the dengue fever prevention campaign under way since Monday, April 19 and set to continue through next week.

pg11cHouseholders are asked to get rid of junk materials and cover or overturn containers kept in places that may accumulate standing water, the medium for reproduction of mosquitos that carry the dengue virus.

Health brigades are making rounds in different neighborhoods to identify homes where clean-up actions are recommended and to apply insecticide as needed to hinder the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads various viral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and zika.

Members of the brigades travel in official vehicles and are individually identified by vests and ID badges issued by Jalisco’s Health Department (SSJ). Residents are advised to not be alarmed by finding chalk marks scrawled on the exterior walls of their homes as references to the prevention program’s progress.
