Pair of crooks busted with counterfeit bills

Two individuals from out of town were detained by Chapala police on Monday, April 5, shortly after they attempted to make a purchase at a local liquor store with a counterfeit 500-peso note.

Provided with a description of their green sedan, officers were able to quickly track the pair down on Chapala’s Avenida Madero. During the bust, officers discovered a plastic bag containing nearly two dozen fake 500-peso bills inside the suspects’ car.

The crooks were turned over to federal agents, who later provided sufficient evidence for the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic to process them for the crime of holding counterfeit currency and eventually put them on trial for that offense.
