Chapala still awaiting booster shots

A flight from Beijing loaded with one million doses of the Sinovac vaccine touched down at the Mexico City International Airport early Thursday, May 6.

The shipment’s arrival came as encouraging news for Chapala seniors anxiously awaiting the long overdue boosters for the Sinovac shots they got in mid-March.

At press time, Jalisco health authorities had not officially confirmed whether a supply of the Chinese vaccines will be sent to Jalisco, and if so, exactly when and where the second doses will be available in Chapala. They are at the mercy of the federal officials who make the pertinent decisions.

Nonetheless, possibilities that local booster clinics will be scheduled next week appear to be rising. The Facebook pages of Secretaria de Salud Jalisco and Region Sanitaria IV Cienega are the best sources to find up-to-date information. English speakers can usually pick up translations of the latest reports on the Lake Chapala Covid-19 Group and Chapala Expat Liaison Facebook sites. Administrators plead with followers to refrain from repeatedly asking for specifics on the second jabs, with assurances that information will be posted as soon as possible.
