Festivites honoring Chapala’s patron saint, San Francisco de Asís, were modified again this year in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The September 26 to October 4 Novenario has been pared down to daily church services and motorized parades of a replica of the parish’s antique statue of St. Francis visiting different neighborhoods every afternoon starting at 5 p.m. Celebration of the 7 p.m. Mass is being transmitted live on Facebook each day. To mark the end of the fiestas patronales, Monday, October 4, the figure will take to the streets for a procession making on a full loop along Avenida Francisco Madero.
