Trans woman to speak at Lake Chapala Unitarians

The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (LCUUF) will host speaker Karen Carlson, a transgender woman, Sunday, October 17.

Karen will speak from Houston, Texas about her own personal coming out story, and about coming out as LBGTQ in general. There will be a short period for questions after the service.

Karen and her wife, Evelyn Carlson, were a male and female couple who married over 45 years ago and have two sons. When Karen decided to live as a woman, she and her wife stayed together. Karen worked for many years in Houston as a man. For eight years Karen lived as a woman, but continued her work as a man, frequently travelling abroad. She came out to her work colleagues at her retirement party.

Karen and Evelyn have been active in the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Houston for many years. The Unitarian Universalist Association in the United States has been on record as supporting the rights and worth of lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons since 1970, and the first wedding for a same sex couple was performed at a Unitarian Church in 1957. The LCUUF has been welcoming LGBTQ individuals since it was founded in 2005.

The LCUUF holds services at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar, Chapala, every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Each service is also available at the same time on Zoom, at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/233941792, and also on YouTube a week or two after the service. Look for past services at: lakechapalauu.org under resources.

If you plan to attend an in-person service, you must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and wear a mask.
