Ajijic welcomes Texas art patron

Efrén González and his wife Reyna Galindo were delighted to act as hosts and guides to Gloria Pennington, a distinguished patron and ambassador of the arts from Austin, Texas, who recently paid her first visit to Ajijic.

pg11Pennington and González struck up a lasting friendship six years ago when they met at a showing of the Ajijic artist’s work at a private home in Austin. Impressed by his talent, Pennington was instrumental in lining up a major exhibit for González at Austin’s Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC), which took place in January 2018. The three-month exhibit, titled “La Luz de Mi Tierra,” still rates as the most successful ESB-MACC art show ever in terms of visitor attendance and sales. It was likewise a rewarding and auspicious experience for González, who has since traveled multiple times to Europe, Canada and the United States to take classes to further hone his skills, lead his own workshops and show his work.
