Ajijic art museum in the works

Lake Chapala’s north shore, and Ajijic in particular, are widely recognized as a haven and cradle of accomplished artists.

pg1aHowever, many of the outstanding creators of the past have long since departed, their works and legacies fading from memory. Others still with us do not have an appropriate place for examples of their art to be conserved in perpetuity.

That is the catalyst for founding the Ajijic Museo de Arte (AMA), as announced Monday, November 22, by Efrén Gónzalez.

¨Our artistic and cultural past is tremendously rich and varied, serving as a source of inspiration for new generations of artists,” Gónzalez declared in a press release. “Photography, sculpture, drawing, painting of great quality have been created in our community. Many artists have died or moved away from our area and little or nothing is known about them. Until today [we] had no place where their work, life and history could be preserved, exhibited and admired.”
