The Chapala branch of Banamex has maintained its doors closed for indoor customer service since Friday, January 14.
No notice has been posted at the entrance to explain the reason for the closure or indicate a date when normal operating hours will be resumed. According to local scuttlebutt, the suspension of service is due to active COVID-19 cases among the bank’s staff rather than the projected sell-off of Banamex announced this month by Citigroup in its move to exit Mexico’s retail banking market.
Local Banamex customers as well as those coming to Chapala from neighboring communities also complain that they frequently find the bank’s single ATM out of cash.
