Murders on Main Street

Agents assigned to the regional branch of the State Prosecutor’s Office are investigating two separate homicide cases in which the victims were shot to death a week apart on Avenida Madero, Chapala’s main thoroughfare.

The first fatal incident occurred late on the night of Saturday June 18 when a local man in his late 20s was gunned down on the sidewalk across the street from the Chapala bus terminal. His body was recovered by state forensic officials from the spot where he fell next to a park bench just outside a cosmetics store.

The second victim was a female discovered by municipal police responding to a report of gunfire in the downtown Plaza de Toros neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.

The woman was found lifeless in the front passenger seat of a compact Chevrolet sedan standing at the intersection of Avenida Madero and Privada Madero. The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes. Another woman wounded in the knee by bullets was found in the vicinity of the crime scene. She was transferred to a hospital by first responders for medical attention.

In addition, three small children ages four to nine were found unharmed in the back seat of the car.
