It will be ready, set, go on Sunday, August 28 when runners line up at the Ajijic waterfront for back-to-back races in the seventh edition of Ultra Trail Campanaria competition.
Making a comeback like other sporting events suspended for the past two years, the contests organized by the Salvajes Ajijic Athletics Club comprise the 14-kilometer high altitude trail run via the Ruta Campanaria, and the reduced distance 9-kilometer Ruta Copal China race.
Contestants in the long race will dash off from the starting gate at 8 a.m., followed one hour later by the Copal Chino runners. All will be vying for a cut in the 30,000-peso purse of prize money. At worst they may have the satisfaction meeting the challenge to conquer the brutal mountain terrain.
Registrations remain open in various age categories in the men’s and women’s divisions for both events, for an entry fee of 500 pesos per head.
