State tourism chief assists at new eatery opening on Ajijic pier

Jalisco Tourism Minister Vanessa Pérez Lamas turned up as a guest dignitary for the official opening of El Barrio de Quilmes, the new branch of the Argentinian steakhouse chain located at the Ajijic pier.

Although the restaurant has been open for business since September, the proprietors held off on scheduling a grand opening event until Tuesday, November 29. Pérez Lamas made a stopover there during a junket to Chapala, to join Quilmes co-owners Pablo González, Roberto Joya and Gastón Marcet for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the entrance and luncheon gathering for several dozen guests.  Earlier in the day she met with Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre to review state initiatives to boost the local tourism industry.
