Governor to address hellish lakeside traffic

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro has announced that the thorny issue of relieving traffic congestion on the Chapala-Jocotepec highway is on his agenda.

But don’t hold your breathe. Development of a definitive action plan, including solutions for the bottleneck running through central Ajijic, will be a lengthy process.

Echoing remarks he made during the recent inauguration of  the Ribera Culture and Arts Center, Alfaro brought up the topic again Wednesday, January 11, during a press conference regarding his administration’s approach to improving mobility on Avenida López Mateos, one of the Guadalajara metro area’s busiest thoroughfares. Remedies will be based on technical studies and public opinion revealed through surveys and dialogues conducted among municipal authorities, inhabitants, the business sector and other stakeholders.

The governor indicated that similar exercises will be employed at lakeside, but only after decisions on short, medium and long term measures for López Mateos are defined in mid-April.
