Chapala authorities and local school kids marked the 217th anniversary of the birthday of Benito Juárez with a ceremony held Tuesday, March 21 on the esplanade in front of City Hall.
Mexico’s 26th president (1858-1872) is remembered as the nation’s first indigenous head of state and his advocacy for human rights and justice for the common people throughout a long political career.
His best known quote is “Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace.”
