Introductory guide to Chapala area bus transportation

Public transportation services in the Chapala area include regular availability of travel by bus. It is an inexpensive and viable option for people who do not have their own vehicles or prefer avoiding the hassles of frequent traffic tangles.

pg15aThe local bus company Autotransportes Guadalajara-Chapala operates full-size buses that run to and from Guadalajara’s Vieja Central Camionera, and some neighboring communities, along with smaller ones that circulate along interior streets of Ajijic, San Antonio Tlayacapan and Chapala.

While native inhabitants who frequently get around this way know the ropes, foreign residents and visitors may need guidance on the details of bus transport.

Full-size buses travel exclusively on highways and Chapala’s Avenida Madero. First-class Chapala Plus service runs direct lines to Guadalajara departing from the main terminal at Madero and Miguel Martínez every 45 minutes between 5:15 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Reverse trips from Guadalajara to Chapala run from 6 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.
