Officers from Chapala’s Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit (PCyB) completed a search and rescue mission on the afternoon of Saturday, March 1, recovering the body of a man who drowned in Lake Chapala, about 200 meters offshore near Santa Cruz.
While the cause of the incident has not been officially confirmed, there is speculation that the man became entangled after falling out of a boat while fishing.
The body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), and the Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated the necessary investigations.
The identity of the deceased has not been released. He was only identified as a 55-year-old resident of Atequiza, in the municipality of Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos.
