Chapala University Center director shares vision for growth & innovation

Patricia Rosas, executive coordinator of the Centro Universitario de Chapala (CU-Chapala), delivered her first progress report on the newest branch of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) network on Monday, March 24, addressing a full house in the auditorium at Ajijic’s Centro de la Cultura y las Artes.

pg11aRosas emphasized her commitment to leading CU-Chapala as a distinguished center for innovative higher education, focused on creating a positive social impact in the region’s communities and conserving Lake Chapala.

She was joined on stage by outgoing UdeG Rector Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, his newly elected successor Karla Planter Pérez (the university’s first female rector), and Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre, among other dignitaries. The audience included UdeG faculty and students, state and local government officials, and members of the Lakeside area’s academic community.

CU-Chapala’s academic programs were launched in January 2023, initially offering degree courses in Nursing and Gerontology. For the Calendar A term beginning in January 2024, the curriculum expanded to include six new professional programs. These include bachelor’s degree courses in Sustainable Cities, Sustainable Businesses, and Cultural and Creative Industry Management, along with engineering studies in Software Development, Animation and Creative Technologies, and Robotics and Automation.
