Federal, state, and local authorities gathered in front of Chapala City Hall this week to launch the “Vacaciones Alegres” public safety campaign, which will be active throughout the lakeshore region during the two-week Easter vacation period.
Mayor Alejandro Aguirre said the operation will include highway surveillance, increased police presence in tourist areas, and preventive measures coordinated with state and federal agencies.
Chapala’s Civil Protection and Firefighter Unit, Police and Traffic departments will collaborate with Jalisco State Police, the Transit Department, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Chapala Harbormaster’s Office, the National Guard, and the Army to address any potential situations.
“This is a comprehensive strategy focused on prevention,” Aguirre stated.
Jalisco’s Strategic General Security Coordinator, Roberto Alarcón Estrada, confirmed that state authorities will support the municipalities of Chapala, Jocotepec, Tuxcueca and Tizapán del Alto, strengthening protection in high-traffic areas during the holidays.
“Do not hesitate to approach the authorities when needed. We are here to serve and protect both residents and visitors,” he said.
State Public Safety Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández González emphasized that Chapala is one of Jalisco’s main tourist destinations, underscoring the importance of reinforcing safety and tranquility during this period. “Joining forces is key to making these vacations both joyful and safe,” he said.
Though not mentioned during the event, a National Guard unit set up a post in La Floresta two weeks prior. Since then, white patrol pickup trucks, manned by armed officers, have made frequent rounds in the community.
