The recovery of Lake Chapala, the establishment of ties with the industrial sector, and the promotion of healthcare for local residents are among the key commitments announced by Dr. Patricia Rosas Chávez as she took the oath of office as rector of the University Center of Chapala (CU-Chapala) on May 21.
In a ceremony held at Chapala’s Hotel Villa Montecarlo, attended by members of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) community as well as state and municipal officials, Rosas shared her vision for leading the university’s growing regional branch at lakeside.
“We seek sustainable regional development and the containment of the rapid expansion of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. It’s a challenging task, but one that Jalisco deserves. From here, I call on all levels of government and civic engagement to make it a reality,” she stated.
Rosas also emphasized the urgency of addressing the health of Lake Chapala. She highlighted that 16 of the 19 major issues facing lakes globally are also present in Chapala, with pollution, sediment buildup, and loss of biodiversity being among the most pressing concerns.
