Chapala Mayor to help lead national Pueblo Mágico tourism initiatives

Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre Curiel has been selected to serve on the board of directors of the Red Nacional de Alcaldes de Pueblos Mágicos, the national network of mayors from municipalities with Pueblo Mágico designations.

The new board was sworn in on May 19 in Mexico City and is chaired by José Alfredo Contreras, mayor of Bacalar, Quintana Roo.

The network’s agenda is focused on strengthening tourism development in Pueblo Mágico destinations, including Ajijic, which is located within Aguirre’s municipality.

Key initiatives the group will undertake include the launch of the digital platform Connecting Magical Mexico, the Fiesta de Nuestra Magia program to boost tourism during low seasons, and the Caminos de Magia project, which will develop thematic routes linking various regions of the country through cultural, gastronomic, and artisanal experiences.

“We are very proud to receive this appointment, as Ajijic represents not only a tourist destination but also a living legacy of culture, traditions, and hospitality that defines the entire municipality of Chapala,” Aguirre said after taking the oath of office. “With this new responsibility, we will continue to promote the development of our region and strengthen tourism as an economic and social engine.”
