Traffic along the Chapala-Mezcala highway came to a screeching halt around 11 a.m. on Monday, June 2, after residents of Santa Cruz de la Soledad blocked the roadway with large stones, plastic chairs, and several vehicles in protest of ongoing work to extend the runway at the nearby AeroClub Chapala.
The road was cleared more than two hours later, once municipal government representatives arrived to hear the protesters’ grievances and agreed to hold a substantive dialogue at City Hall.
