If you’re looking for unusual holiday gifts or a distinctive piece of home décor, don’t miss the Original Friends prison dolls at the Christmas in July Bazaar, happening Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chapala’s American Legion Post 7.
The line of handcrafted Original Friends dolls was created 17 years ago by Lakeside resident Rebecca Roth while she was incarcerated at Puente Grande Prison on trumped-up criminal charges. She began making dolls from sewing notions as a calming creative outlet during her prolonged legal battle. Before long, other female inmates joined her in a vocational handicraft project approved for the women’s wing.
