Chapala questions terms of pact on federal zone management

While three lakeshore municipalities have accepted agreements with the National Water Commission (Conagua) to collaborate in the vigilance, conservation, and maintenance of federal zones bordering Lake Chapala, the government of Chapala is holding off on signing the pact while its exact terms are under review.

So far, the city councils of Ocotlán, Poncitlán, and Tuxcueca have approved cooperative agreements to share responsibilities with Conagua in protecting areas under the agency’s legal jurisdiction from illegal invasions, construction, and other abuses.

pg11aThis week, Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre told local media that the details of the pact are being scrutinized for possible revisions that would be more beneficial to the local government.
