In an ambitious plan to restore an authentic village atmosphere, Ajijic has been selected for the installation of an underground wiring system that will eventually extend over a radius of 42 blocks. The first stage will be concentrated in the center of town, stretching from the highway to the waterfront along Calles Colón, Juárez, Marcos Castellanos and adjacent side streets.
According to Chapala government treasurer Alan López Castillo, work on stage one is slated to begin by the end of this month and finish before the World Cup Soccer Championship matches kick off in Guadalajara the second week of June.
The project is to be executed by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) under an agreement with the Chapala municipal government, forged and fostered by Fundación GDL 500, a civil association aimed at promoting urban renewal programs and the upgrade of public spaces.
