A misunderstanding about the plans for the reconstruction of Ajijic’s Saúl Rodiles primary school prompted a meeting on Tuesday, February 10, between concerned parents and state authorities to clarify the purpose of a multi-purpose sports facility to be built on the grounds.
Personnel from the Jalisco Institute of Educational Infrastructure (INFEJAL) addressed the issue, explaining that the cancha deportiva will be integrated within the confines of the new campus, but is not designed as a space for regular public use.
The meeting was called in response to a video released by municipal authorities, and subsequently disseminated by a local weekly newspaper, implying that the space would serve as a “meeting place” for the local community. This was of concern to parents, who were unhappy to learn that the school grounds would be used for external activities.
