Two collisions reported within a couple of hours provoked chaos and congestion along the highway on the western outskirts of Ajijic, standing out among a series of traffic mishaps reported this past week.
Around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, police and first responders were called to a three-car pileup in the vicinity of Villa Nova. The accident involved a head-on crash between a 2006 model Honda CR-V and a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup, and damage to a 2018 Volkswagen Transporter van. The female drivers of the first two vehicles, aged 27 and 35, were rescued from the wreckage and transported by ambulance to the Chapala Municipal Clinic for treatment.
A motorcycle parked on the lateral service road several meters below the highway level sustained collateral damage, crushed beneath a small trailer that apparently became detached from the back of the pickup.
