On Thursday, May 7, a crew of workmen contracted by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) began installing an underground cable system in central Ajijic.
The project entails the replacement of overhead power lines and telecommunication transmission wires with a network of cables buried beneath the surface of village streets. The work was initiated on Paseo de Lago, which runs parallel to the waterfront between Calles Nicolás Bravo and Ramón Corona. Cables were laid in ditches on the north side of the roadway and fed into underground transformers installed in cement boxes. Once completed, the road was covered up again with the original cobblestone surface.
