This week, the Chapala government kicked off the rehabilitation of several streets in the heart of the city.
It started on Tuesday, May 19, with the closure of the full length of Calle Niños Héroes between Guerrero and Avenida Madero, which is being repaved with a new layer of asphalt. The project is being carried out by a company contracted by the local government.
The repair work will continue on all Niños Héroes cross streets on the segments located between Calle Morelos and Paseo Ramón Corona. Those thoroughfares are Juárez, Zaragoza and 5 de Mayo, although it has not been confirmed if the repaving will be carried out in that order.

The project may have been timed to improve mobility and the visual appearance of central streets for the benefit of World Cup fans who are expected to visit the lakeside area. Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre said this week he expects 400,000 visitors to the municipality during the 39-day tournament.
