Patricia Rosas Chávez, head of the Chapala University Center (CU-Chapala), has brought together representatives of the academic community, the business sector, service providers and the municipal government to launch an advisory council aimed at strengthening the region’s economic development through strategies focused on sustainability, environmental preservation, and adaptation to changing circumstances.
“Today we took a very important step toward the future of our region,” Rosas Chávez remarked in a social media post.
The Comité para el Desarrollo del Turismo Sostenible de la Ribera de Chapala (Chapala Lakeshore Committee for the Development of Sustainable Tourism) was formally seated on Wednesday, May 27, with Rosas serving as chair and Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre named as honorary member.
During her remarks, Rosas Chávez noted that the initiative stems from follow-up to an initial meeting held at the Preparatoria Chapala high school regarding efforts to promote sustainable tourism.
