Transgender people in Mexico City can now legally change their gender without a court order, following a vote by the Federal District Legislative Assembly last week.
The bill, which passed by a 42-0 vote margin, is another step forward by liberal politicians in the capital to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Mexico City is currently the only city in Latin America to allow gender changes on birth certificates without medical examinations.
