Trump looks to designate Mexican cartels as terrorist groups

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, U.S. President Donald Trump said he is mulling over designating Mexico’s drug cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations.”

The announcement comes on the heels of his polemic declaration of a national emurgency at the U.S.-Mexico border – a strategy designed to obtain more funds for his border wall. In a stinging rebuke for the president, the Senate voted Thursday to overturn the declaration.

Despite this setback, Trump looks set to continue his assault on Mexico, painting the country as lawless and in the pocket of the drug cartels.

“Mexico, unfortunately, has lost control of the cartels,” Trump told Breitbart. “Mexico last year had 42,000 deaths – murders – 42,000. It’s considered one of the most unsafe countries in the world.”

But Trump praised President Manuel Lopez Obrador, calling him a “wonderful guy.”

Trump also slammed the U.S. media for its lackluster reporting of the “horrors” – and murders –at the border.
