The 200-peso bill replacement

New 200-peso bills now in circulation feature Mexican independence heroes Miguel Hidalgo and Jose Maria Morelos.

The reverse side of the green notes show an image of the El Pinacate biosphere and Gran Desierto de Altar, both UNESCO heritage sites located in the state of Sonora.

The new design replaces previous images of famed poet Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and the Hacienda Panoaya.

The bills have the same modern technological features of the new 500-peso notes, including a security thread, watermark, micro-lettering, identification mark, color-changing ink and raised texture.

Banco de Mexico Governor Alejandro Díaz De León said that new 1,000- and 100-peso bills will be introduced in 2020.  The image of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz will be used in the 100-peso bills, he said.
