Foreigners relocating to Mexico in large numbers

In the past four years, the number of foreigners deciding to make Mexico their home has increased by 58 percent, according to the National Immigration Institute (INM).

Statistics released by the federal agency confirm that 537,699 foreign citizens now have permanent residency status in Mexico, compared with 338,901 in 2015.

Of this number, approximately 77,000 are U.S. citizens and 47,000 are either Venezuelan or Honduranian.
