Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador left everyone on tenterhooks Thursday, promising that he would announce the following day if he was going to raffle off his unwanted presidential plane via the National Lottery.
Many people thought the president was joking when he recently floated the idea of selling raffle tickets to rid his austere government of a plane he believes is a massive waste of money. Lopez Obrador eschews any kind of luxury, and takes commercial flights for all his travels inside of the country. (He has yet to make a trip abroad during his presidency.)
