Peña Nieto being probed in Mexico, WSJ maintains

The Wall Street Journal has reported that former President Enrique Peña Nieto is being probed for possible corrupt practices, although the current Mexican chief executive says he is unaware of any such investigation.

An unnamed Mexican law enforcement official told the U.S. newspaper that the investigation is linked to Emilio Loyola, the former CEO of oil giant Pemex, who was arrested in Spain last week after being a fugitive for more than six months. Loyola is accused of accepting millions of dollars in bribes from a Brazilian construction firm.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said it would not be unusual for him to be out of the loop, since the Justice Department acts independently  of the presidency. However, that he would be kept in the dark about an investigation into his predecessor seems hard to believe.
