Medical staff most at risk from Covid-19

Since the start of the pandemic, Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 149 medical personnel in Mexico – 122 of them doctors, according to Jose Luis Alomia, the federal health ministry’s director general of epidemiology.

One-third of the deaths occurred in Mexico City, he said. Medical personnel also account for around one-fifth of the country’s total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. Nurses are the biggest segment, with 47 percent of the infections, followed by doctors with 36 percent. Alomia said 19 percent of people who died could be categorized as obese.
