Cancellation of flights from Canada to impact Mexico’s tourism sector

Canadian tourism to Mexico looks set to come to a standstill, at least until the end of April, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced strict new anti-coronavirus measures for travelers last week.

pg6bAirlines have agreed to suspend all direct flights between Canada and Mexico until April 30, as the Canadian government tries to stem the spread of new variants of Covid-19 in the country.

“Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transat are canceling air service to all Caribbean destinations and Mexico starting this Sunday,” Trudeau said at a press conference in Ottawa on Friday, January 30.

Mexican carrier Aeromexico’s direct flights from Mexico City to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver will also be affected.
