The federal government has been forced to come out and clarify that all resident foreigners in Mexico are entitled to free Covid-19 vaccines after reports from some inoculation sites that citizens without National Electoral Institute (INE) credentials were being denied shots.
One vaccination location in Mexico City even posted a sign saying, “Foreigners prohibited from getting vaccines.”
A Health Ministry spokesperson reiterated this week that everyone in Mexico will have access to the vaccines, regardless of their nationality. He called the problems some foreigners have experienced as cases of “confusion.”
While Mexican citizens turning up for vaccines are asked to show their INE card, foreigners should be able to show their immigration cards, which have the CURP (personal ID number) printed on them.
