Mexico sets daily record for jabs

Mexico’s vaccination rhythm picked up rapidly during the first two weeks of this month.

On Wednesday, April 7, the barrier of 500,000 doses applied in a single day was broken for the first time, with 530,178 jabs going into the arms of Mexicans and residents. Another record was set on April 13, when 553,926 doses were applied nationally.

As of this week, Mexico received over 17 million doses of vaccines – of which the largest supplier has been Pfizer-BioTech with around seven million doses.  Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez Gatell said that the vaccination program is well on track, and the aim of applying a first jab to all persons over 60 by the end of April will be reached ahead of schedule.

Vaccinations for people in the 50 though 59 age bracket will begin in late April, he announced. According to census figures, Jalisco has approximately 801,000 citizens between 50 and 59.  In addition, teachers in states that are in the low-risk category (green traffic light) will also be scheduled for jabs, in a bid to speed up the return to in-person classes.
