Various media outlets are highlighting the trade in false Covid-19 vaccination certification documents, which are mostly being sought by people who wish to travel but do not want get jabbed.
El Informador highlighted one vendor’s FB posting: “This service is for people who urgently need to go on a trip to another country. The registration is done without the need to [have] the vaccine or it is simply for people who do not want to be vaccinated.” The cost of the document is 300 pesos, and it will be sent as a pdf file, the vendor says.
The falsification of public documents in Mexico is punishable by up to 12 years in prison, in addition to a fine, the newspaper noted.
The official certification document confirming a person has been fully vaccinated against Covid is issued by Mexico’s federal government, and can be downloaded online (cvcovid.salud.gob.mx) or by WhatsApp (561-713-0557) simply by providing a person’s CURP (personal identity) number.
