Colombia moves closer to GDL

Discount Mexican airline Viva Aerobus will launch a nonstop flight between Guadalajara and Bogota, Colombia, starting in October. Two flights a week are scheduled.

The first ever route connecting the two cities will use Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, with capacity for 186 and 240 passengers respectively.

The Guadalajara route will be Viva’s fourth between Mexico and Colombia. The airline currently flies from Bogota to Mexico City and Cancun, and from Medellin to Mexico City.

“We are excited about the flow of visitors this new route will bring,” Jalisco Tourism Secretary Vanessa Pérez Lamas said during the ceremony at the annual Tianguis Turístico de México, announcing the new route, held this week in Acapulco. “It’s a market with great potential, given that 51,000 Colombians visited Jalisco in 2019.”

More recent figures from the Colombian government show that 81,000 non-resident travelers visited Colombia from Mexico in 2021, ranking third behind United States and Venezuela.
