Is US ambassador being ‘played’ by AMLO?

When Ken Salazar, the United States ambassador to Mexico, assumed his role in September 2021, he probably did not imagine that his fiercest criticism would come from media outlets within his own country, from the liberal-leaning The New York Times, no less.

pg3aIn a piece published in the Times last weekend, writers Natalie Kitroeff and Maria Abi-Habib say they spoke with more than a dozen current and former officials and analysts to reach the conclusion that there is “growing concern within the (Biden) administration that the ambassador may have actually compromised U.S. interests”  in prioritizing “building a strong relationship with (President Andrés Manuel) López Obrador in hopes it would advance the White House’s agenda.”
