President gets job affirming lift

A march in Mexico City to mark President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s four years in office attracted hundreds of thousands of his supporters on Sunday, November 27.

pg1bThe four-kilometer trek, led by the 69-year-old president showing no sign of tiredness, headed from the Angel of Independence to the Zócalo and took more than five hours.

At the Zocalo, he climbed onto a podium to address the crowd for 90 minutes, delivering his annual state-of-the-nation report, focusing heavily on the success of his “fourth transformation,” as his campaign to end political corruption is known.

AMLO had called the march in response to the recent nationwide mobilization by opposition forces against his controversial electoral reform project that many say will weaken the independent elections adjudicator, INE.

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum estimated that 1.2 million people participated in the march, although this figure has not been verified.
