Three convicted in case of missing Canadian retiree

In a case that went underreported in the Mexican media, a woman, her son and brother were each sentenced to 56 years and three months in prison after being convicted in the “forced disappearance” of a Canadian citizen.

Malcom Madsen, a retired real estate agent and jeweler from Sutton, Ontario, went missing on October 28, 2018, when he was last seen in the company of his girlfriend, Marcela “A,” at a bar in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone.

After his daughter, Brooke Mullins, realized that Mexican and Canadian authorities had little interest in pursuing the missing persons case, she undertook her own investigation, hiring private investigators, who uncovered a body of evidence indicating foul play, and implicating Marcela “A,” her son and sibling—Martín Alejandro “R” y Andrés Javier “R”—in her father’s disappearance.

Chief among the evidence presented by Mexican prosecutors was video footage showing Madsen’ girlfriend slipping a powder into his drink before the couple exited the bar.
