News report on fentanyl lab up for an Emmy

A news report by Mexican journalists showing how a fentanyl laboratory operates in Mexico has been nominated for an Emmy.  The 20-minute segment by the N+ news channel is up for an award in the category of Outstanding Feature Story in Spanish.

pg7b“No Mexican team has done this before,” reporter Víctor Valles Mata told news agencies. “We were doing research, looking for contacts and finally we managed to get access this clandestine laboratory of the Sinaloa Cartel where we were allowed to document how fentanyl is produced in Mexico.”

The fascinating report may be somewhat of an embarrassment for President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who has frequently played down Mexico’s involvement in fentanyl production.

The second half of the report shows harrowing scenes of medical teams attending to addicts in towns on the northern Mexican border.

Valles and his co-reporter Adrián Tinoco Castilloa were recently presented with the prestigious King of Spain Award for Narrative Journalism for the same report.
